Cyclist killed on Tralee – Killarney road

Garda press release:

Gardai in Killarney are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Kilcummin Cross on the Tralee to Killarney road at approximately 9.45pm on the 31.03.13.

A male cyclist in his late 60’s was fatally injured when he was struck by a mini bus. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body removed to Tralee General Hospital. The driver and sole occupant of the mini bus was uninjured.

The main Tralee – Killarney road is closed in both directions at Kilcummin Cross to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.

Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to contact Killarney Garda Station on 064-6671160, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

  1. Terribly sad to hear the news of this happening again. There have been a few such incidents happening lately of Cyclists being killed by Vehicles running into them on Rural Roads. One case was a Mother and Daughter traveling by Bicycles and the Mother being hit from Behind by a Vehicle overtaking.

    I cannot comment fully until the facts are known ,did the Cyclist have lights,how fast was the Minibus travelling. All these incidents and the information about them is scant. If this Motorist was at fault the Book should be thrown at them ,they should not be let off with probation as is the case with some of these incidents lately. I dont like calling them Accidents if it was caused by negligence by Motorists or indeed a Cyclist.
