Mayo cyclist killed at the weekend is name

Garda 3A cyclist killed at the weekend in Mayo has been named in local media as 47-year-old Jarlath Kelly.

He was killed in a collision between his bicycle and a car on Saturday May 17, at 11.45am on the Ballaghadreen Road, Classaghroe. Described as about a mile outside the town of Ballyhaunis, Co Mayo.

Gardai in Swinford are seeking witnesses to the collision. Swinford Garda Station can be contacted at 094-9252990.

The Mayo News reports that the accident occurred close to a bend on the road and that cars were approaching the death man from both directions. The newspaper says that it is understood that a motorist traveling in the same direction as the cyclist was in the collision.

The motorist driving the car, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital for minor injuries.
