Cycling trainer appointed to schools in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area

cycling event dlrDún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council has re-appointed Barbara Connolly from the Cycle Safety and Skills School to provide cycle training to 5th and 6th class children in the county’s primary schools.

The council said: “Barbara has over nine years experience in cycle training and with her team has trained over 1600 pupils in 38 schools in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown between September 2013 and June 2014. Barbara was also recently appointed as the new Cycling Standard Project Development Officer with Cycling Ireland.”

It added: “Our Road Safety and Cycle Training Programme is run in conjunction with the Road Safety Authority who part fund the training.”

Cllr Gerry Horkan, the council’s cycling champion commented: “The Cycle Training Programme in schools can play a valuable role in getting pupils to learn the skills of cycling in a safe school area and help them learn how to look after their bike. Helping children to cycle at a young age can play a role in keeping them cycling when they become adults”.
