Compulsory purchase orders to be used for greenway in Co Kerry

After a protracted process of engaging with landowners Kerry County Council are set to start the legal compulsory purchase order process in January.

Radio Kerry reported that the head of the council administration, chief executive Moira Murrell, is “adamant that a compulsory purchase order for the South Kerry Greenway project will be lodged with An Bord Pleanala in January.”

The council had previously said that they would push ahead with the CPO process by the end of this year, so the new timeline is a slight delay.

Speaking at a council budget meeting, Murrell said planning will be first and funding will follow.

  1. Here we go. Cue Michael and Danny and the boys, another attack on rural Ireland by “youse up in Dublin”, climate change caused by the fairies, blah blah blah, government intervention, council overruled, no CPOs, no greenway.

  2. How right you are. Pity the councils wouldn’t use more CPOs on Greenways. Badly needed here in Mayo to properly complete the Greenways into Achill and Turlough outside Castlebar.
