CyclingWorks to launch in Cork after Dublin success

NEWS-IN-BRIEF: CyclingWorks is soon to launch in Cork after the CyclingWorks model — which asks businesses to support segregated cycle routes — was imported from London to Dublin.

As so many large cycle route projects are stalled or slowly making their way through pre-planning, the Dublin group has yet to have a tangible route to focus on, but it is understood that politics and officials are noticing the demands from companies to build the Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network.

Today (Tuesday) the founders of CyclingWorks Cork are to give a presentation to the monthly meeting of the Cork Cycling Campaign. The meeting starts at 7pm in Crawford and Co on Anglesea St, opposite Garda Station. The Cork Cycling Campaign says that all welcome.

I am editor of IrishCycle.com and have reported on and commented on cycling in Ireland for over a decade. My background is in journalism -- I have a BA in Journalism from DCU and HDip in Print Journalism from BCFE. I wrote about cycling for national newspapers, and then started CyclingInDublin.com for overflow stories. Later the website was re-branded to reflect a more national focus.

  1. Good Luck to Cork Cycling Campaign and Cycling Works Cork! Great initiative!

  2. Somewhat related article about the Cork car ban. At least one city centre business supports people centric instead of car centric planning.
