And the winners are….

All of the entries can be viewed here: Proof: Shopping by bicycle is possible in Ireland and Northern Ireland.

This competition will hopefully be the start of a longer-running focus on shopping by bicycle — thank you to all who entered and helped promote the idea that shopping by bicycle is possible a lot more than most people think. View all of the entries here.
Here’s a recap on the details of the prizes:
TOP PRIZE: A made-to-order coat from The Cambridge Raincoat Company (worth £250). The stunning cycling-friendly coats are made with high-performance fabrics which are lightweight, breathable, windproof, washable and highly-water resistant.
As this coat will be made-to-order, it will take 8-10 weeks for delivery, but The Cambridge Raincoat Company will be able to offer customised sleeve and coat length, a considerable choice of colours, and a choice of 3 styles for women and 2 styles for men. Check their selection of coats out at cambridgeraincoats.co.uk.
SECOND PRIZE: A Dutch “MyBasket” bicycle shopping basket (bicycle not included!) which can be used without a front carrier on most city bicycles. The MyBaskets are easy to take on and off, they carry up to 9kg and are available in pink or black.
RUNNER UP PRIZES: A set of Waterproof silicone lights (click images for product details on Dutchbikeshop.ie)
Why go by bike?
You’re far less likely to get stuck in traffic and you won’t have to squeeze into a bus or tram. In parts of Ireland few people cycle to shops, but even in the Grafton Street area of Dublin where bicycle shopping is relatively high, 2011 research from DIT showed retailers overestimated car users and underestimated bicycle use. Back then, nearly as many shoppers cycled as used cars, and twice as many just walked. Cycling use has boomed in the area in the years since.
