Cyclist found collapsed in Dalkey dies

Gardai in Dun Laoghaire are seeking witnesses to an incident involving a 54 year old male cyclist on Friday September 28.

The cyclist died days after he was found in a collapsed state but conscious on Barnhill Road, Dalkey.

It is unclear if any other road user was involved in the incident.

We had asked Gardai for details of the incident last week but they refused, however the Garda press office has just released the following press release:

Death of pedal cyclist in Dalkey on the 1st Oct 2012

Gardai in Dun Laoghaire are investigating the circumstances on an incident in which a 54yr old male was found in a collapsed state but conscious on Barnhill Rd Dalkey on the 28th Sept 2012.

The male cyclist was found at approximately 8.45pm on the Barnhill Rd close to the Avondale Rd roundabout by a witness he was treated at scene by an Ambulance crew and taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where his condition deteriorated and he was pronounced dead on the 1st Oct 2012.

The deceased is described as follows:- 5’9 – 5’10 in height of thin build, short brown hair going grey, clean shaven he was wearing grey bottoms, dark woolly jumper, blue jacket and navy converse runners.

Gardai at Dun Laoghaire are requesting any witnesses to this male cycling on Barnhill Road on the night in question in particular any witness to the male coming off his bicycle (as described above) or who may have been on the Barnhill Rd between 8.15 and 8.45pm on the 28th Sept 2012 to contact them in Dun Laoghaire on 01 6665000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.

We will not be disclosing the name of the deceased.
