A mini-greenway linking parts of Rathfarnham, which will allow for quicker cycling and walking trips, was opened last week.

While the path is only around 600 meters, it will provide for direct access from parts of Rathfarnham around Grange Road to Dundrum. Locally the route allows for a direct link between Nutgrove Shopping Centre, in the Dun-Laoghaire Rathdown County Council area, and Saint Endas Park in the South Dublin County Council area.

The mayor of South Dublin County Council, Councillor Fintan Warfield (pictured) launched the route at the start of National Bike Week. Mayor Fintan Warfield said: “Given its attractive, off road setting, the new greenway has significant potential for connecting communities, providing access to amenities and local facilities as well as commuter cycling”.

The permeability project, by South Dublin County Council, was funded by the National Transport Authority. It includes a 4m wide shared walking and cycling path, lighting, CCTV, landscaping, traffic calming, and footpath upgrades.

South Dublin County Council said last week that it is working with Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to develop the route further by linking it to the Slang River Greenway that runs from Marlay Park to Dundrum.
