A man in his 40s has died in hospital after hitting a bollard on a bicycle in Cork at rush hour yesterday.

Gardai in Watercourse Road in Cork are investigating the fatal road traffic collision which happened at Shandon Street at around 5.40pm yesterday evening.
It brings the number of cyclist deaths this year to 7 deaths.
The man seriously injured when he collided with a bollard and he was brought to Cork University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead late last night.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators have completed an examination of the road.

Very sorry to hear this news,my condolences to the Family of the man. I do not know the circumstances of the crash to comment fully. But as it was rush Hour there is always a problem with fast moving Traffic and narrow little streets and the possibility of the Cyclist being forced suddenly onto the Bollards,we do not know for sure. They should have a 30km speed limit and also a segregated Cycle Lane .I am sure this would make it a lot safer for all perhaps even banning Motor Traffic on that Street completely.
