...I'm sorry to disrupt you while you're reading this article, but without messages like this, IrishCycle.com's reader-funded journalism won't survive. With nearly 1/2 million views and 300k readers so-far this year, it's not just people who are dedicated to cycling that this website reaches. However, the number of subscribers is around 0.6% of readers. Fingal County Council upgraded the Swords Road around Dublin Airport, it included an extra-wide shared use footpath. Which might be half decent given relatively low footfall around here, but Fingal are not great with the detail of cycling infrastructure and they could not possablly change their record so we got yield markings at driveways, long waits at larger junctions, and, as above, narrowing and blindspots at bus stops where the path has the potential to be most busy.

Any they’ll wonder why many people cycling are keeping to the roads.

Have you seen Dun Laoghaire Rathdown’s CoCo’s latest road improvement in Sallynoggin? They have provided a fantastic new road surface which serves three schools and one of the largest underage football clubs in the country and … no cycle lane at all!!!
But they did include a succession of centrally painted islands just to ensure that anyone cycling on the road will have close encounters with the motorists all the way.
