Feedback on Dublin city centre transport study ends at 5pm today

Public constulation on a study which will support new street layouts for Dublin city centre — including wider footpaths, cycle paths, bus priority and car restrictions — ends today at 5pm.

The already extended call for feedback links in with street changes which will be needed for Luas Cross City. According to transport sources, the plan to extend the College Green bus gate to 24 hours seven days is a requirement for the running of green line trams in an area already congested by buses, private cars and taxis.

Dublin City Council said that: “The study seeks to address the imminent transport issues facing the core city centre area, to facilitate the implementation of the Dublin City Development Plan, and to safeguard the future growth of the city.” Details of the study can be found at dublincity.ie/transportstudy.

As we recently reported, the chief executive officer of retailer Arnotts and chairman of the Dublin Town business association, Ray Hernan, has rallied businesses against the city centre Transport Study. A Dublin Town spokesman has since played this down and said it was mainly concerning details of the plan which the city council has yet to work out.

On the other hand, a petition supporting the Transport Study — which was started by a small city-centre business — is likely to have close to 2,000 names by the end of the day.

Official feedback can be given by filling in a quick online survey on the city council’s website, or by emailing traffic@dublincity.ie.
