Waterways Ireland, the cross-border canals agency, is seeking a environmental assessment for the Ulster Canal Greenway Strategy.
A public tender for the work is due to close tomorrow.
The 74km and mostly disused canal is planned to be restored for leisure use and sections of greenway have already been opened along the route.
The tender states: “Waterways Ireland seeks submissions from suitable consultants to carry out certain tasks related to Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitats Directive Assessment of the Ulster Canal Greenway Strategy, in accordance with the requirements of Directive 2001/42/EC of the European Parliament and Council of 27th June 2001 on the assessment of the effects of certain plans and programmes on the environment (known as the SEA Directive) and Directive 92/43/EEC, known as the Habitats Directive.”
