A male cyclist in his 50s is in a “critical condition”, while a pedestrian in his 30s has suffered leg and back injuries, in a collision between the two on a cycle track in the Phoenix Park yesterday evening at around 8.40pm.

“A male cyclist in his 50s who was cycling on the cycle lane on the upper part of Chesterfield Ave (the city bound side between the Aras and Castleknock Gate), was seriously injured when he was involved in a collision with a pedestrian,” said Tony Connaughton of the Garda press office.

He added: “The male cyclist was taken to Beaumont Hospital where he is described as being in a critical condition. The male pedestrian in his 30s was taken to James Connolly Memorial Hospital with leg and back injuries.”

“Gardai wish to appeal for witnesses to contact Cabra Garda Station on 01 6667400, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

  1. I have sent an email to the RSA about 3 years ago about similar happening to me and about the park as I have had many incidents with pedestrians/joggers/kids/dogs running across the lane with a lead and the owner on the other side (some leads are very thin, can’t see them), I have had a kid jump of the foot stand on a pram just as I was about to pass on the park cycle path, and to avoid hitting the child I had to go into the grass mount and onto the road and there is a big depression before I got to the road for which would have caused me to crash if it not for the fact I am OK at bunny hopping, lucky me, there was also the fact I have bladed steel spokes which I am sure would take a kids hand clean off if a kid were to accidentally put their hand in through the wheel for what ever reason, to all this they just send a reply referencing the rules of the road, which a pedestrian be it a child or disabled person is not required to know, but but the man still died because nobody listens to the people on the ground, its the same s*** in this country all the time, wait till its tooooo late.
You can’t have cyclists and pedestrians/children attended and unattended, disabled persons either mentally or physically using the same path, what clown thinks of this, I can’t believe persons in charge are this stupid or or or or or is it because of lobbying from companies whose interest to push cyclists onto paths and away from their customers, I WONDER.
In Ireland common sense never prevails I WONDER WHY, I hope you can sense the sarcasm.
