Gardai seek witnesses to hit-and-run after man on bicycle left with serious leg injuries

Gardai in Howth are appealing for witnesses to a collision that occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning July 9, 2016 at approximately 12.45am on Strand Road, Baldoyle.

Garda Sgt Margaret Flanagan of the Garda press office said: “What was described as a black Volvo S.40 model, 07 D registration, came down the Strand Road in the direction of Main Street Baldoyle and struck the male pedal cyclist (26 years) who was cycling home from work. The pedal cyclist was knocked to the ground and has serious leg injuries and was removed to Beaumont Hospital where he continues to be treated for his injuries.”

She added: “The driver of the car failed to stop at the scene. This car travelled along Strand Road, Baldoyle onto Main Street turned left onto Moyne Road and again turned left into the Castlemoyne Estate. The car was abandoned in the Castlemoyne Estate. The car’s two front tyres had blown out and the car was being driven on rims at the time it was abandoned.”
