Second Dublin cycle lane removed and replaced with bus lane

Dublin City Council has replaced a cycle lane on Amiens Street alongside the IFSC with a bus lane, it follows a similar move recently at South Richmond Street.

The council said that the change was a bus priority measure and was approved via the Transport Advisory Group, which involves local councillor oversight, and by the National Transport Authority.

A spokeswoman for Dublin City Council said: “The non mandatory cycle track in a standard road traffic lane has been replaced by a shared bus and cycle lane, due to the road widths in this area it is not possible to mark a mandatory cycle track within the bus lane.”

She added: “This change is for bus priority along Amiens Street particularly for buses which are accessing the contra flow lane outside the Custom House. This change went through the normal process via the Transport Advisory Group and also the NTA approvals as the funding agency.”

  1. I’m wondering on this one was it planned to have the canal cycle lane open earlier which gave cyclists a safer route to the south quays but the cycle lane took a few more years
