Over 100 new bicycle parking stands were added to the streets around Dublin city centre recently by Dublin City Council.
It’s part of €300,000 funding this year for bicycle parking in the city council’s area. The funding was allocated earlier this year after the Dublin City Centre Cycle Parking Strategy Report (PDF) was published last year.
Sarah Scannell, the city council’s cycling officer, said: “Dublin City Council is currently working on a further batch of cycle parking, it is hoped these additional stands will be installed later in 2016.”
Welcoming one of the new stands, @libertiesdublin, the Twitter account of Liberties Business Area Improvement Initiative, said: “It’s definitely a case of provide it and they will use it. New cycle parking on Thomas Davis St (South) in demand.”
According to the council, the recently installed batch of stainless steel Sheffield stands are at the following locations:
- Capel Street- northern end – 11 stands
- Swift Row – 5 Stands
- Bride Road – 5 Stands
- Luke Street – 14 stands
- Francis Street- (Thomas Street end) – 10 Stands
- Exchange Street Upper – 7 Stands
- Charlemont Street – 5 Stands
- Clanbrassil Street- either side of Fumbally Lane – 10 stands
- Mary Street – 9 Stands
- Thomas Davis Street South (off Francis Street) – 10 Stands
- Ryder’s Row – 16 stands

We reported recently that planning permission was submitted for an upgrade and expansion of Dublin City Council’s bicycle parking unit at the Drury Street Multi Storey Car Park, located in the core southside retail area of Dublin city centre, but it has since emerged that there is so-far no funding to progress the project to construction.
