Family-friendly cycle planned to support Liffey Cycle Route

A family-friendly cycle is planned on Sunday April 2 along Dublin’s quays to demonstrate support for the Liffey Cycle Route.

The event, organised by the Dublin Cycling Campaign, is to show support for the planned 4.6km contentious cycle path between the Phoenix Park and the Point Village. It will start at 11am on Sunday April 2 on Chesterfield Avenue across from the Wellington Monument in the Phoenix Park..

The Facebook page for the event says: “Get on your bike and support the proposed Liffey Cycleway! On Sunday April 2nd the Dublin Cycling Campaign is hosting a family-friendly, social cycle in support of the Liffey Cycleway.”

“This is a great opportunity for cyclists of all ages and abilities to come out and show their support for the new cycleway, which is currently in the planning and design stage. The Liffey Cycleway in one of a number of planned segregated cycleways in Dublin which are scheduled to come online in the next couple of years.”

It adds: “With other groups bemoaning any changes to current traffic conditions on the quays, it is vital that we also show how important these protected cycleways are to people who cycle, and to people who would like to cycle but are too intimidated by the current road conditions. The Liffey Cycleway will be crucial in helping to realise the Dublin Cycling Campaign’s overall vision of a vibrant, living city where everyone can safely enjoy everyday cycling and walking. So get on your bike and support the Liffey Cycleway on Sunday April 2nd!”
