Man dies in hospital a week after bicycle/car collision in Cork

A 62-year-old man passed away in hospital yesterday after he was involved in a collision between a car and his bicycle on Friday April 21, 2017.

Margaret Flanagan, at the Garda press office, said: “At approximately 12 midday on Friday April 21, Gardaí were called to the scene of a collision involving a motor car and a pedal cyclist. The male pedal cyclist, in his early 60s, was seriously injured and removed to Cork University Hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured. The pedal cyclist has since passed away and died in Cork University Hospital on Saturday April 29, 2017.”

Gardaí in Skibbereen are investigating the fatal road traffic collision and they can be contacted on 028 23088.

Local media report the collision occurred at Saunder’s Cross, about two miles from Skibbereen town, in the townland of Lissanoohig.

The man’s death is the sixth death of an person cycling on Irish roads to date in 2017.
