Woman on bicycle killed in collision with tractor in Co Kerry

A woman in her 40s who was cycling in a group was killed this evening around 7pm in Killarney, Co Kerry.

RTE are reporting that the collision between the woman on a bicycle and the tractor driver happened at the junction of the N22 bypass and the Lewis Road. 

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene and road is expected to stay closed overnight for a forensic investigation. 

The death of the woman is the 7th death of a cyclist on Irish roads since the start of 2017.

Damian Hogan of the Garda press office said: “At approximately 7pm a female cyclist in her 40s was in collision with a tractor which was towing agricultural equipment on the Killarney bypass which is the main Cork to Tralee Road (N22). The cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor was uninjured.”

He added: “The road is closed to traffic and local diversions are in place while Garda Forensic Collision Investigators examine the scene. The local Coroner has been notified.”

“Investigating Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact Killarney Garda Station 064-667 1160, the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
