14-year-old boy seriously injured in collision with 4X4 driver in Kildare

A 14-year-old boy on a bicycle was seriously injured in a collisions with a 4X4 driven by a man in his 30s yesterday near to Monasterevin, Co Kildare.

Gardaí said they are appealing for witnesses following the collision which happened between Monasterevin and Oghill.

Sean Mac Seoin at the Garda press office said: “At approximately 12.30pm a 14-year-old boy was seriously injured when his bicycle collided with a 4×4 vehicle. The collision occurred on a local road between Monasterevin and Oghill (L7055).”

He added: “He was taken by ambulance to our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. The driver of the 4×4, a man in his 30s, was uninjured. The scene was examined by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road has since reopened.”

  1. #Allocate4Cycling doesn’t work as a demand, #freethecyclelanes is completely ignored by absolutely everybody who isn’t a cyclist, maybe we should try #PleaseDontKillMe and #WeArePeopleToo.

    I don’t know, getting sick of hoping that drivers realise that cyclists are regular humans, that government recognises that cyclists are vulnerable and that cycling is very relevant as a sustainable mode of transport.

    They (RSA,Gardai, Shane Ross, drivers) are just not listening. They don’t give a flying f**k, do they? This is turning into a bloodbath and there’s nothing to stop it.

  2. Could someone who knows this RTC location point me to Google Street-view of it?
    I am disturbed that a SUV would hit a young rider. Plenty of space cries out to be given.

  3. You should have to apply for special permission for those cars. It is almost as if they were designed to cause maximum damage to pedestrians.
