North Dublin coastal greenway takes steps towards construction

Fingal County Council are progressing planning for local sections of the East Coastal Trail which is planned to extend from Arklow to Drogheda. The council are to host three information evenings this week (see table below).

Fingal Coastal Way, which starts at the northern end of Dublin Bay, looks set to overtake planning and likely also construction of the problematic S2S Dublin Bay route in central and south Dublin.

Cllr David Healy (Green Party) said: “It is great that design work is starting on this section of the coastal greenway. The consultants have been given a brief to produce a high quality amenity greenway along the coast. It will be part of the Fingal Coastal Way, leading on from the Sutton to Sandycove route around Dublin Bay, and connecting to the route across Broadmeadow Estuary from Malahide to Donabate.”

He added: “The Baldoyle to Portmarnock section is ready to go to An Bord Pleanála and formal public consultation, probably this month. The informal consultation this week will look at the sections south and north of that stretch: from Sutton Creek and Sutton Cross to the Green belt north of Baldoyle and from the Sluice River south of Portmarnock to the railway line at Malahide Estuary.”

The purpose of the information meetings is to set out the scope of the project and to start the discussion with local people and visitors of the issues, challenges and opportunities in designing the greenway.

...That's the end of the article. Keep scrolling if you want to the comments, but IrishCycle.com *NEEDS* readers like you to keep it that way. It only requires a small percentage of readers to give a bit each month or every year to keep IrishCycle.com's journalism open to all. Thank you.

  1. Oh please god, please god, please god, please god. Oh please make this happen. Being able to cycle over the Malahide estuary along the railway bridge would be absolutely fantastic and if done right would be better to walk and cycle than the Waterford greenway. (imo – disclaimer, I’m biased because I live within an easy cycle of here).

    Oh please god. !
