Teenager on bicycle killed in collision with minibus in Meath

A 17-year-old teenager was killed in a collision with a minivan at around 5pm this afternoon on the Golf Links Road, Bettystown, Co Meath.

Margaret Flanagan, at the Garda press office, said: “A 17 year old boy was cycling his pedal cycle when he collided with a mini-bus. The pedal cyclist was fatally injured and his body has been removed to Navan Mortuary. A post mortem will be conducted in the coming days.  The male bus driver (mid 50s) was uninjured.”

She added: “The Forensic Collision Investigators are currently conducting an examination at scene. The road remains closed, local diversions are in place.”

  1. So, once again, it was the cyclist’s fault – HE collided. And once again they reassure us that if a bus runs over a cyclist, there is a danger the driver might be injured, but, once again, fortunately, he wasn’t.

    Really annoyed that these crashes are still being reported as the person on the bike colliding with the vehicle.

  3. Unless that young man threw his bike at the minivan or cycled straight at it surely the van collided with him. This stinks of some insurance company hoping to deflect blame onto the dead teen. Disgraceful reporting.

  4. My condolences to his family. I wonder how this collision could have happen. Wasn’t there a law that says something about 1.5 meters. Or did the boy have to avoid a pothole. Would there have been proper cycling infrastructure, like in The Netherlands, maybe this tragic accident could have been avoided.
