Council to write off litter fine for children’s bicycle wash sign

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County said it will write off a €150 litter fine issued after a litter warden spotted a sign for a children’s bicycle wash last Sunday.

“At the time the fine was issued on Sunday morning, the shop was closed and so the litter warden could not speak to the owners about the sign,” said a spokeswoman for Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council.

She added: “An appeal has been lodged, the circumstances explained and the fine will be written off.”

Yesterday, IrishCycle.com reported that a family-run Dublin bicycle shop was hit with the fine after the owner’s children put up a poster advertising a bicycle wash outside the shop on Saturday.

Astrid Fitzpatrick, who runs the Dutch Bicycle Shop with her husband Frank, arrived into work this yesterday morning with the €150 fine in their post with photographs taken on Sunday of the poster.

  1. If DLRCC spokeswoman has a bicycle herself she could contribute to the development of a bicycle oriented Irish-Dutch balanced family by having her bike washed there.
