A long-awaited contra-flow cycle route on Lombard Street East, linking the junction of Pearse Street and Westland Row to the quays is set to be built.
The project will include 2 metre wide one-way segregated cycle lane heading south-north from the junction of Pearse Street to City Quay.
Welcoming the development, Cllr Patrick Costello (Greens) said “It’s great to see this happen finally. There is need for safer infrastructure like this across the city, and while it has been a stated aim of the development plan to introduce more it has still been a slow process with few delivered.”
According to Dublin City Council the project includes the removal of car parking along the west side of Lombard Street East; modification to the existing traffic island at Pearse Street / Westland Row; and new protected intersections for cyclists.

The council said that the project will also include improved pedestrian crossing facilities.
The Environment and Transportation Department of the council said they are planning to tender for the Works next Friday April 12.
