24-year-old woman on a bicycle seriously injured in collision with truck driver

A 24-year-old woman on a bicycle was seriously injured in collision with truck driver last night in Dublin.

“Gardaí were called to a serious road traffic collision on Dorset Street with the junction of Eccles Street involving a female pedal cyclist and a lorry driver. The incident occurred on the 24th April 2019 at approximately 9.25pm,” said Celine Ross at the Garda press office.

“The female (24) has been removed to the Mater Hospital with serious injuries but it is believed at this time, that her injuries are non life threatening. Road has reopened and investigations ongoing.”

  1. I hope this woman recovers fully.

    Pass this junction several times a day. Massive amounts of blatant red light breaking by drivers – meaning right-turning cars get stranded and then end up driving through active pedestrian crossing (and oncoming cyclists at the head of the adjacent queue). A Garda posted here for a few hours would make a killing, even better put cameras up.

  2. Maybe it is time for the Garda to start to spot-check drivers for valid driving licences instead of stopping cyclists for not having hi-vis’s. 120.000 drivers on the roads without proper exams passed and I presume without proper knowledge of the Rules of the road.

  3. It was a roadworks truck who hit her. Just left my college and seen the scene. [company name removed by editor] haulage truck. Taking no responsibility for whatever. Girl is still in hospital with both her legs slashed undertaking 8th surgery on both legs. [company name removed by editor] owner promised and came to hospital and did took all the responsibility and promised to cover all the treatment and rehab costs.but since no word from them whatsoever.
