9-year-old boy airlifted to hospital after bicycle struck by motorist in Co Offaly

A 9-year-old child is in a serious condition in hospital after he was struck by a car while cycling on a minor road today at around 2pm at Heathfield, Pollagh, Co Offaly, Gardai have said.

Sean Mac Seoin at the Garda press office said: “The collision occurred at approximately 2pm when a boy aged nine years was struck by a car while cycling on a minor road at Heathfield, Pollagh (Pullagh).”

Gardai said the boy was treated at the scene and airlifted to Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin and that he was since been transferred to Temple Street Hospital where his condition is described as serious.

No details were provided about the driver of the car other to confirm the driver was not injured.

He added: “The scene has been examined by Garda Forensic Collison Investigators and enquires are ongoing.”

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Tullamore Garda Station or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.”

  1. Its like saying the fly swat was not damaged by the fly.Hoping he makes a full recovery and can resume cycling.
