I Bike Dublin to protect Rathmines cycle lane today

NEWS IN BRIEF: I Bike Dublin protesters are to stand on the line of the Rathmines Road to protect it from motorists illegally driving and parking in it.

Rathmines Road is the entry point into the city centre which has the highest number of people cycling but improvements on the route are tied up with BusConnects and so-far the National Transport Authority have only put forward options for sub-standard cycle tracks and detours.

“We will be protecting the infamous Rathmines cycle lane! Meet outside Blackbird at 5.25pm [today],” the group tweeted. “Please keep the footpath clear for people walking through as it’s really narrow there.”

The cycle lane protection protest this evening is to run from 5.30pm-7.00pm.

I Bike Dublin tweeted: “If you can spare 2 minutes, 20 minutes or more, come join us and bring a friend. Maybe for just one evening people won’t have to pull out to join buses and other traffic?”
