A brand new urban junction redesign in Limerick City continues the trend in Ireland of mixing cycling with both motorists and pedestrians.

The Parnell St/Wickham St scheme by Limerick City and County Council is under construction. The below images are from the tender documents for the project.

The design of the project includes the common problem with Irish cycle routes of putting people cycling into different types of share spaces with both pedestrians and motorists.

Most of the cycling area on the project drawings are painted unprotected cycle lanes, yet, the council expects people cycling and wanting to make a right turn to do so by first divert onto a footpath.

After weeks trying to crack this puzzle I've finally settled on this route from Gerald Griffin St to Roches St as the one the designer wants cycle traffic to take but this can't work if the legend is correct.
