Dutch speaker to tell Cork to plan for people not for cars this Friday

An event in Cork this Friday will include a Dutch speaker who will talk about planning for people and bicycles, not for cars.

A ‘Mobility Cafe’ taking place at Cork City Library on Grand Parade will have speakers discussing low carbon transport and multi modal interchanges in Europe and Ireland. It will run from 1.30-4.30pm this Friday, September 20. It is free but requires registration via Eventbrite.ie.

The event is hosted by the Southern Regional Assembly, Cork Transport Mobility Forum and Cork City Council as part of the EU-funded MATCH-UP programme.

The main guest speaker is Sebastiaan Van Der Hijden, strategic mobility adviser to Utrecht city council, who will present on the topic of ‘Planning for People (& Bikes), Not for Cars’.

Another speaker, Dr Brian Caulfield, an associate professor at Trinity College Dublin’s Department of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering, is to to present research on ‘Bike Sharing Connecting Mobility and Activity Hubs in Cork’.

While Owen Shinkwin, senior planner at the National Transport Authority, and Kevin Burke, principal transport planner at Jacobs are to speak about the Draft Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy 2040.

Bernie Connolly, a coordinator with the Cork Environmental Forum is also to present on the topic of ‘Low Carbon Multi Modal Travel in Cork City’.
