28-year-old run over on part of planned Liffey Cycle Route

A 28-year-old man suffered significant injuries to his leg after he was run over by a hit-and-run driver on May 5 last across from the main entrance to the Phoenix Park.

CCTV footage of the collision, which resulted in the man needing to undergo a number of surgeries, featured on Crimeline on RTÉ last night.

It happened on Conyngham Road close to where the street joins with Parkgate Street. The location of the impact would have included a segregated cycle path if the long-delayed Liffey Cycle Route was built.

According to TheSun.ie, Garda Karl O’Reilly told CrimeCall tonight: “We are appealing for anyone who might have seen that vehicle either before or after the incident.”

The car is described as a black Volkswagen Golf, registered between 2004 and 2008.

Garda O’Reilly added: “The car was travelling at quite a speed the injured party is quite lucky to have survived the incident.”

He said that the car sustained damage to the headlight, wing and bumper damage and that Gardai are looking for anybody who might have seen a car with such damage to come forward.
