Person cycling bicycle killed in collision with truck driver in Dublin

A male cyclist — age currently unknown — was killed this morning in a collision with a truck driver at a junction of the South Circular Road in Dublin.

It was first reported that it was at the junction with the Bulfin Road, but it is now understood the collision happened at the junction of Brookfield Road, beside the Mace shop and across from the site of the new National Children’s Hospital.

Colin Heeney at the Garda press office said: “Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred this morning Friday 1st November 2019 at approximately 8:30am on the South Circular Road at the junction of Bulfin Road.”

“The collision involved a lorry and a pedal cyclist. The male cyclist — age currently unknown — was fatally injured. His body remains at the scene at this time. The lorry driver was uninjured. The scene is currently preserved for the arrival of the Garda forensic collision investigators to carry out their examination. The road is currently closed to traffic and diversions are in place.”

He said: “Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information, particularly any motorists who may have been on the South Circular Road between 8:15am – 8:45am who may have dash cam footage to come forward.”

He added: “Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí in Kevin Street on 01 6669400 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

  1. I passed by soon after the accident. You could tell it was serious as there was a major Garda and fire brigade presence with a big screen up to restrict visibility of the scene. I get on and off Dublin bikes there regularly. Very dangerous at the moment with all the construction traffic from the new hospital. RIP to the unfortunate victim.
