Man in his 70s dies in hospital after collision with truck last month

A man in his 70s has died in hospital after a collision with truck, which Gardai said was parked at the time, last Thursday in the Shankill area of Paulstown, Co Kilkenny.

Kyle Stewart at the Garda press office said: “Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision incident that occurred on 29/10/19 at approximately 12:20pm in the Shankill area of Paulstown, Co. Kilkenny.”

“A male cyclist, 70s, collided with a parked lorry and was taken to St Lukes General Hospital in serious condition. The man has since passed away.”

He added: “Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact them, particularly any road users who may have camera footage available. Anyone with information is asked to contact Gardaí at Thomastown on 056 7754150 or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.”

I Bike Dublin, a cycling campaign group, said: “We issued a Press Release earlier today which noted that 39 people have been killed while cycling on Irish roads since the formation of the current government. It is with great sadness that we note that the Press Release is now out of date. RIP.”
