Male on bicycle killed in collision with late night Luas tram

A male cyclist — of unknown age — was killed in collision with late night Luas tram at around 3am this morning, according to the Garda press office.

The Garda press office said that fatal collision happened on Luas Green Line at Peters Place — Peters Place is a cul de sac of houses which has vehicular access shared with the Luas green line at the Charlemont Bridge. It’s unclear at this point if the person killed was accessing Peters Place or elsewhere.

Sergeant Margaret Flanagan of the Garda press office said: “Gardaí in Pearse Street are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred at Peters Place on Charlemont Bridge at approximately 3am this morning, Sunday 15th December, 2019.”

“One male pedal cyclist (age unknown) was fatally injured when a collision occurred between the luas and the pedal cyclist. He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been removed to the City Morgue in Whitehall,” she said.

The Garda press office said that the scene of the collision has been examined and the Luas line is now operating again.

Sergeant Flanagan added: “Gardaí are appealing for any persons who may have witnessed the collision or may be able to assist them with the investigation to contact them at Pearse Street Garda Station on 01 666 9000, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
