Dublin and Meath hit and run drivers knocks men off their bicycles

Gardai are investigating two hit and runs, one in Dublin City and one in Co Meath, where motorists hit people off their bicycles and failed to remain at the scene on Sunday,

In the most recent incident, a man in his 20s is said to be in critical condition in hospital after a motorist struck him with a car and failed to remain at the scene at around 9pm last night on Sheriff Street Upper in Dublin.

Sean Mac Seoin at the Garda press office said: “Gardaí at Store Street are appealing for witnesses following a hit and run traffic collision in Dublin on Sunday 13th June 2021. Shortly after 9pm a male cyclist aged in his early 20s was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on Sheriff Street Upper.”

”He was taken from the scene by Ambulance to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is understood to be critical. The driver and car involved in the collision failed to remain at the scene,” he said.

”The scene was examined by Garda Forensic collision investigators and local scenes of crime officers. A car understood to have been involved in the collision was found abandoned a short distance away on Guild Street and has been removed for forensic examination.”

He added: “Investigating Gardaí are appealing to the driver the car and anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward. They are also appealing to anyone with video footage (including dash cam) from the location to make it available to them. In relation to the earlier incident Meathchronicle.ie reports that Gardai are appealing for witnesses after a male cyclist was struck in a hit and run incident at Staleen near Donore on Sunday afternoon.
