IMAGES: Achill island greenway extension progress, waiting on a bridge

IMAGES: An extension of Mayo’s Great Western Greenway onto Achill island is progressing but the project is waiting on a bridge over estuary a short distance onto the island.

A reader, Ciaran O’Byrne, sent this website the following images of Mayo County Council‘s   progress on the extension works after his recent cycling trip around Mayo.

A tourist map shows the route of the first phase of the extension onto the island, but be warned — as the images below show — it’s a work in progress:

The location of the approach to the future bridge can be found on Street View and seen on the map below which is part of tender documents:

Documents seeking a expansions of interest from companies wishing to construct the bridge, dated May 2021, show drawings and photomontages of the proposed bridge:
