Man knocked off his bicycle in collision with motorist in Phoenix Park

A man in his 60s was knocked off his bicycle in collision with a motorist at the roundabout near the Castleknock Gate in the Phoenix Park in Dublin in rush hour this morning (Wednesday).

The man was put in a neck brace and taken to hospital. The extent of his injures was unclear at the time of publication of this article on Wenesday night.

A spokesperson for the Dublin Fire Brigade said: “We responded to a road traffic collision involving a car and bicycle at that location at approximately 08.30. There was one male patient, treated and transported to hospital.

The Fire Brigade added: “Gardai were also on scene. We have no further info.”

The Garda press office said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended a traffic collision involving a car and bicycle that occurred near Chesterfield Avenue in Castleknock, Co Dublin this morning, 22nd September 2021.”

They added: “The collision occurred at approximately 9.20am and the cyclist, a man aged in his 60s, was later taken to James Connolly Hospital for treatment of his injuries.”

The Gardai press office said tonight that the incident is listed as happening at 9.20am on their system. At the time of publication, it was unclear if this was an error. An eyewitness to the aftermath said that he passed by at 8.50am and when the cyclist was in a neck brace.

An eyewitness to the aftermath, Oisín Ó hAlmhain, tweeted: “Cyclist knocked over by car at roundabout near Castlenock gate of Phoenix Park. Paramedics on site. Avoid the area. Hoping that he is ok. Neck brace being used.”

He said that another motorist beeped for him to get out of their way 5 seconds after passing the collision.

  1. Horrified at the news of the bicycle user injured after a collision between his bicycle and a car.
    Equally astonished but not surprised by a car driver ‘beeping’ at another bicycle user who was reporting the incident.

    All the best to the injured man in his 60’s.
