A man, who appears to be a delivery cyclist, was injured in Cork on Thursday evening after a hit-and-run motorist ploughed into a parked car which then bounced into the delivery cyclist sandwiching them into another parked car.
A video posted on social media — as below — shows how the man’s legs were pinned between the two parked cars on Douglas Street in Cork. The motorist who hit the parked cars seemed to stop a short distance ahead before driving onto the junction ahead, turning a corner and going out of sight of the camera.
The footage, from a CCTV camera, shows how the man is helped out from the bike and cars — he leans against one of the cars before dropping to the ground apparently in pain.
“Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a collision that occurred on Douglas Street in Cork City at approximately 7.25pm on Thursday, 16th December 2021. The collision occurred when a vehicle collided with a parked vehicle and a stationary cyclist,” said Evan O’Leary, a spokesperson at the Garda Press Office.
Gardai said that the injuries are not reported at this time to them as being serious. Although the classification of what is a serious injury can exclude some significant injuries.
The Garda press office said that no arrests have been made at this time and investigations are ongoing. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision are asked to contact Anglesea Street Garda Station at 021 4522000.
