Waterford City and County Council are seeking residents without off-street bicycle storage in Waterford City to try out an on-street bicycle locker for six months.
‘BikeBunkers’ is the name the Dublin City Council Beta team used for a bicycle locker product usually called bike ‘hangars’ which are placed on streets by a local authority and then spots in the lockers are rented to residents who get a key. After trailing the lockers first, Dublin City Council is currently in the process of rolling out lockers across its inner city area.
Waterford City and County Council and Waterford Sports Partnership are now seeking residents to volunteer to try out the lockers.
They said: “Would you like to own a bike but have nowhere to store it? We are looking for city residents with no backyard access (terrace house or apartment) to try a Bike Bunker for six months for free.”
They added: “All we want is feedback on how it worked for you.”

Waterford is really showing other cities the lead when it comes to promoting cycling. Visited there this year and was very impressed with the positive attitude to active travel and the amount of pedestrianised areas in the city. It was a very enjoyable experience. I will be back this year to explore more. Well done Waterford!
