The section of Dublin City Council, DCC Beta, responsible for starting the service that rents space in on-street bicycle lockers is now turning its attention to cargo bikes.
The Dublin City Council Beta trial of BikeBunkers was launched in 2015 — the system allows residents without easy access to secure storage to rent a place in an on-street bike locker.
The council outlines that the project is now at the “scaling Beta” stage, which means they are “seeking to learn more about the delivery model for this service (eg funding, legals, branding, pricing, locations, etc)”. These lockers however do not fit cargo bikes.
Regarding cargo bikes, Dublin City Council Beta are asking: “Do you own a #cargobike, and currently store it on a street near your home? When picking your parking spot, what are your: 1. Must haves 2. Nice to haves Eg max distance away, same street or around a corner, object you’re locking to, on/off footpath, lighting, under trees, etc.”
It’s at the early stage yet, so, no one solution has been chosen but a number of companies sell cargo bicycle lockers such as Cyclehoop, and Falco (see images below).
