International Womens Day cycle in Cork

The Cork Cycling Campaign, Cork City Council and the Cork Sports Partnership have teamed up for an International Womens Day cycle this Sunday — it promises to be a fun, music-led cycle around the city, on Sunday, March 12 starting at Grand Parade at 1pm and finishing at Cortado Coffee.

How can Active Travel provision be accelerated?

Trinity College Dublin is to host a panel discussion later at 9-11 am on Wednesday 22nd March. with the topic of Accelerating Active Travel for 2030. You can register to attend for free at Eventbrite.ie.

It will be chaired by Prof. Jane Stout, Vice President for Biodiversity and Climate Action and panellists to include: Joe Seymour, head or Active Travel at the National Transport Authority; Claire French, Senior Executive Engineer at Dublin City Council; Dr Robert Egan, Research Fellow at TCD; Willem-Frederik Metzelaar: Head of Innovation Hub West at EIT Urban Mobility; and Martina Mullins: Health Promotion Officer at TCD.

Who runs traffic lights?

Sam Tranum, a reporter and deputy editor with Dublin Inquirer newspaper is asking for help with a new project. He said: “Would you be willing to help me report an article about levels of road traffic enforcement in Dublin city? I’m looking for people to film an intersection, count road users who break reds, and how many of them face enforcement. If you want to get involved: sam@dublininquirer.com.”

Cycle bus founder co-opted onto Galway City Council

Galway Cycle Bus founder Alan Curran has been co-opted as a Galway City Councillor for the Social Democrats in Galway East. He tweeted today: “First council meeting all done! Really enjoyed the experience. Thank you to all the councillors & council staff who made me feel very welcome, & for their support, advice and guidance. Still awaiting my council email but please DM me in the interim.”

Citizen-powered traffic count data from Cork

Cork Cycling Campaign has also tweeted out results from citizen-led traffic counts. The group said: “Last year we set up a few @TelraamTelraam traffic counters in Cork. Here are some of the results! Look at all those Two Wheelers, including motorbikes, electric bikes and non-motorised pedal bikes.”
