The Garda Press Office said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a collision involving a bicycle and a van, which occurred at Junction 17 of the M7 Southbound, near Portlaoise, Co Laois, on Monday 25th September 2023 at approximately 5.45pm.”
The press office added: “The female cyclist (30) was treated at the scene and was later transported to Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise for treatment for injuries not believed to be life-threatening at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”
Yet another bicycle user injured by a motorised vehicle.
Anecdotally people who are injured by such vehicles while cycling, seldom return to cycling.
And of these incidents discourage many of those contemplating using a bicycle as an alternative means of transport.
