Apparent road rage incident with motorist attacking cyclist filmed in Dublin

Gardaí are investigating an alleged incident of assault at Marino Mart in Fairview in Dublin.

A video has been posted to social media of an apparent road rage incident which depicts a man repeatedly hitting a person — the video’s caption claims it shows a motorist attacking a cyclist.

The short clip was posted on Instagram yesterday with the overlay caption “Battle of the Clontarf Road — driver v cyclist” and another caption which said: “Shocking scenes in Dublin this morning!” and using the hashtags: #cyclist #driver #hooks #digs #roadrage #battleofclontarf.

It depicts a man repeatedly hitting a person dressed in red and up against a construction barrier beside the ongoing Clontarf to City Centre project works at the junction with the Malahide Road.

The clip includes a person or people shouting stop and another motorist approaching the two to try to stop the attack.

It was filmed from the Fairview Park side of the road and to the backdrop of the Marino branch of Bank of Ireland and Gallagher Quigley Estate Agents.

The Gardai Press Office said: “Gardaí are investigating following reports of an alleged incident of assault at Marino Mart, Dublin 3, on the morning of Wednesday the 4th September 2024.”

They said enquiries are ongoing.
