A Christmas tree, which was placed in the contra-flow cycle lane on O’Connell Street in Limerick, has been moved off the cycle lane, according to reports from members of the public this morning and confirmed by an image posted to Bluesky.
As IrishCycle.com reported yesterday, this is the second year in a row that a Christmas tree was placed blocking the cycle track on the street.
Last night, John Moran, Mayor of Limerick, tweeted: “I expect a solution! And for the record, I am not planning to use this as a reason to lose the bus lane on the other side either!”
The reference to the bus lane follows some city centre traders looking for the bus lanes to be opened to all motorists in the lead up to Christmas. Some councillors at a local area meeting supported the idea, and it is understood that the council were considering the suggestion at least up to yesterday.
Limerick City and County Council still has yet to reply to a request for comment.

What are the odds of a tree-in-a-row? You can use that as a headline next year.
Now if they were smart they’d hire in little runabout buses and make them free for the Xmas period.
