Following a recent high-profile launch of Garda Roads Policing Units using unmarked trucks, Gardaí have warned motorists that they are also using unmarked motorcycles and cars in Dublin City to catch drivers using the phones and breaking other road traffic laws.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí from our Roads Policing Unit based in Dublin Castle are on patrol in and around the city since the very early hours of this morning in two of our new unmarked vehicles.”
They added: “These are helping us target poor driver behaviour like using your phone while driving.”
According to the Road Safety Authority, international research indicates that distracted driving, including phone use, could be a factor in as many as 20-30% of all collisions in this country. This means that distracted driving could be a contributing factor in over 1,400 collisions involving injuries annually.
Hopefully they step it up. Seen marked cars drive by illegal parking etc so often so I’m hopeful but sceptical they’ll enforce things enough.
Pity they wouldn’t do something about the robbed bikes driving around targeting genuine motorcyclists and pulling them off there bikes the city is like a lawless 3rd world country.. everyday gangs going around on stolen bikes endangering everybody with there reckless driving wheeling trough the capital…
I’ve seen one pulling a guy on Dame Street. Long may it continue
