Residents of Fingal in north and north-west Dublin are being offered free 30-minute bike share trips once they sign up with proof of residency in the Fingal County Council area.
Bleeper’s bicycles are available in Fingal areas such as Dublin 15, Swords, Howth, Sutton, Malahide, Portmarnock, Baldoyle, and Dublin Airport.
Although the company’s coverage area has been reduced recently — due to low usage, Bleeper’s bicycles are no longer available in coastal towns such as Skerries, Balbriggan, Rush, and Donabate. The news comes as another operator, Tier-Dott — as reported in another article today — has pulled all of its operations out of Ireland, including these areas of Fingal, which will also not be served by Bleeper.
In an email to councillors, a Fingal official said: “While we are disappointed to be losing Tier and their very popular service, we are delighted to announce a new contract with Bleeper Bike for pedal bike share, the new service will see 150 pedal bikes deployed in Fingal, up from 125 previously.”
It added: “We are also delighted to introduce the ‘Fingal Pass’ which will give every Fingal resident their first 30 minutes of every trip free of charge. We feel this will be a brilliant way to incentivise more sustainable transport and drive utilisation across the service.”
Outside of main urban centres, Bleeper has also moved to a more hub-based model of covering areas city-wide outside of a section of Dublin City.
The 30-minute free offer — which is supported by the council — is open to residents of any area in Fingal, although bicycles can only be hired and returned to the operating zone.
It applies to to pedal bikes without electric assist and does not apply to the rental of e-bikes or cargo bikes.
