Galway City Council is continuing to make progress in removing much-despised kissing gates, which are a barrier to people with disabilities, parents and others who use prams, and bicycle riders.
Dave Corley, a Galway-based advocate and creator of the Barriers2Galway map, said: “Kiss the kissing gates goodbye! Two more are about to be removed in Galway, this time at Cappagh Park. Thanks to Cllr Alan Curran for getting this over the line to improve accessibility and active travel infrastructure in the city.”
Cllr Alan Curran (SocDems), on Bluesky, said: “Was happy to use my LIS (Local Improvement Scheme) money to part fund additional accessibility improvements in Cappagh Park which included the partial removal of the wooden barrier at the front of the community centre. This will allow safer access to the bike parking, easier access to the soccer storage areas, and better sight lines.”
“Further improvements to follow including the removal of the kissing gates and linking the park to the western distributor road active travel scheme,” he said.
