A Garda Press Office spokesperson said: “Gardaí have arrested a woman in her 30s in connection with a hit-and-run collision that occurred near Whitehouse Cross, Dromiskin, Co Louth on Monday 6th January, 2025.”

Gardaí said that they and other emergency services attended the scene of a collision at around 6.25pm on Monday, which involved “a vehicle and a cyclist” on the R132 in Dromiskin, Co Louth.

“The cyclist, a man aged in his 40s, was brought to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda to be treated for serious injuries. He remains in a critical condition,” the spokesperson said.

  1. When hit-n-run arrests are made it is generally too late for meaningful toxicology to be conducted on the driver’s blood sample, so they will likely get away with a slap-on-wrist from the judiciary.
These impacts are examples of road violence where the vehicle has been used as a weapon.
We require more rapid reporting from Garda authorities about such impacts putting facts into the public realm just like what happens with aircraft crashes where the investigators are legally mandated to produce an interim report within a stated period.
It suits motordom to have omertá regarding the outcomes from RTCs for as long as possible (sub judice, etc.). We must end the omerta.
