Fingal County Council has posted photos of the progress of the construction of a pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Dublin to Belfast Railway line in Donabate.
The council said that the bridge will help better link the train station and Newbridge Demesne and eventually be linked to the greenways in the area that the council is planning, including the Fingal Coastal Way.
In an update, Fingal County Council said: “Support structures to take the weight of the bridge have been constructed on either side of the railway. Bridge beams were lifted into place under night-time railway possession in January and the concrete deck of the bridge was poured in recent weeks.”
“Temporary working platforms and edge protection railings have been installed to allow works to be carried out on the bridge. The permanent parapets are due to be installed in the coming weeks with ancillary works such drainage and public lighting to follow thereafter,” the council said.
Fingal said that works on the bridge are expected to be completed in March 2025.
Before construction started, the bridge plans received approval from councillors under Part 8 planning and permission from the Commission for Railway Regulation because it crosses the Northern Line railway.

I hope this is compatible with the plan of electrifying this route in the near future.
