A woman in her 60s is to appear is due to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning in connection with a fatal road traffic in which a father of three, John Walsh, was killed.

A Garda Press Office spokesperson said this morning: “Gardaí have charged a woman in relation to the investigation of a fatal road traffic collision involving a bicycle and a car that occurred on the Malahide Road, Dublin on Sunday, 18th February, 2024.”

John, who was in his early 40s and was a solicitor for AIB, died in Beaumont Hospital on the same day from injuries sustained in the collision.

The Irish Times reported last year that Olivia Walsh, the widow of John, said she felt sure “on those final few minutes before John left us he was happy.” Given his eulogy, she said she was at peace knowing her husband was delighted to be going cycling on a Sunday morning and that “he was likely unaware that was the end”.

After his death, UCD Cycling Club, which he was a member of, said: “John has been in the club many years and was a crucial part of the club’s activities, especially during his time as a student when he was club captain and had taken out his licence to race again in the club colours this year.”

They added: “We will deeply miss John who was always to be seen ripping up the corners of Mondello on a Tuesday night. May the wind be always at your back, RIP”.
