— Dublin City Council is hosting the event tonight, and after the film, a panel of female guests will discuss the barriers to women cycling.
The film, ‘Wadjda’, is about a 10-year-old girl in Saudi Arabia pushing boundaries by wanting to cycle a bicycle, but those around her keep telling her that cycling is not for girls.
The panel will be chaired by Siobhán McNamara, vice-chair of Dublin Cycling Campaign, and will include Catríona Nally from Ballymun Youth Action Project and Recovery Road Cycling Club; Josephine Healion, Paralympic cyclist and World Championship medal winner; and Jannatul, a new cyclist from Bangladesh, who participated in Dublin City Council’s adult cycle training for direct provision residents at St Mary’s Home, Pembroke Park.
The screening is to be hosted at the Generator Dublin in Smithfield, with doors open at 6.30pm and the film starting at 7pm.
Standard tickets cost €10, and admission is discounted to €5 for unwaged, older persons and students. The price includes the cost of a drink. Under 18s are welcome but must be with a parent or guardian. Booking and further details can be found at eventbrite.ie.
